‘Pokémon Go’ Maker Niantic Sells Off Gaming Division, Doubling Down on Geospatial AI & AR Tech
Niantic has sold its gaming division—including Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now—to Scopely for $3.5 billion. Additionally, Niantic has spun off its geospatial AI business into a new company, Niantic Spatial. Led by John Hanke and backed by $250 million in funding, Niantic Spatial aims to integrate Extended Reality, Geographic Information Systems, and Artificial Intelligence to create immersive experiences for a range of industries.
