KLARNA AND ANGEL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB LAUNCH LIMITED EDITION CAPSULE COLLECTION “DEL ALMA DE LOS ANGELES” WITH LA-BASED DESIGNER HIJA DE TU MADRE

In a continuation of its Rep Her initiative, the collection, available to shop with Klarna via shop.angelcity.com starting October 3, features four styles touting the phrase “del alma de los ángeles.” Ten percent of proceeds will be donated to the Central American Resource Center and matched by Klarna.

LOS ANGELES (October 2, 2024) – Angel City Football Club (ACFC) and Founding Partner Klarna, the AI-powered global payments network and shopping service, today announced the launch of a limited edition merchandise capsule collection as part of the brand’s ongoing efforts to bring more merchandise styles to women’s sports fans. Designed by LA-based designer Patty Delgado, Founder and CEO of Hija De Tu Madre, the collection celebrates the Latinx community and women’s sports fans alike.

The four-item collection - a sweatshirt, t-shirt, hat and bag - will feature the phrase “del alma de los angeles,” meaning “from the soul of the angels,” a tie back to Angel City FC and Hija De Tu Madre’s Latinx heritage. Starting October 3, all items will be available for fans to shop exclusively using Klarna on Shop.AngelCity.com. Fans who pay with Klarna’s interest-free Pay in 4 flexible payment option will receive $10 off their purchase of $38 or more at checkout. This offer is valid until October 6 at 11:59pm PT.

Earlier this year, Klarna launched the “Rep Her” initiative, which shed light on the lack of merchandise availability for women’s sports fans in comparison to men’s. Key findings from the research were that for every nine pieces of men’s sports merchandise, women’s sports had just one from the same retailer. Additionally, one of the biggest hurdles women’s sports fans faced was the lack of styles when shopping for merchandise, noting that t-shirts and accessories were two of the most popular items they were searching for. With t-shirts, hats and tote bags as three of the collection’s items, the “Del Alma de Los Angeles” collection is another example of Klarna and Angel City’s efforts to close the availability gap, bringing more women’s sports fans closer to the game they love.

To further support Hispanic Heritage Month, 10 percent of all proceeds from the collection will go directly to the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that facilitates immigrant integration programs for Central Americans in the greater Los Angeles area. CARECEN provides a variety of services to Latinx immigrants, including legal services, community engagement, education, civic participation and job referrals. Klarna will also match the total donations earned from sales.

“Currently, the women’s sports merchandise market lacks in styles, sizes and availability in general for fans. As a shopping and payments service, Klarna is all about bringing fans closer to the game and athletes they love by increasing access to more merchandise and helping fans shop smarter so they can fan harder,” said Megan Gokey, Klarna's Head of B2C Marketing & Brand Partnerships, North America & UK. “Our work with Angel City FC has always been about putting the fans at the heart of what we do and elevating the fan experience by providing more access, so we’re thrilled to bring Hija De Tu Madre in as the designer of this year’s capsule collection to celebrate ACFC’s Latinx community and beyond.”

“I am so proud to be collaborating with ACFC and Klarna on this collection that honors our city and community,” said Patty Delgado, CEO and Founder of Hija de tu Madre. “This collection is an ode to our home. From the statement, to the throwback airbrush details, everything in this ‘Del alma de los angeles’ was designed to feel like the city we call home.”

Klarna, now in its third season as a Founding Partner to Angel City FC, continues to offer fans an innovative way to shop, pay and support their favorite team. Along with being integrated as a payment partner on ACFC's online store, the payments solution and shopping service leader launched past capsule collections with LA-based retailers re-inc and Suay Sew Shop.

ACFC Head of Community + Marketing, Catherine Davila, also said, “Many of our fans in the City of Angels are of Latinx descent, and it’s an honor to team up with Hija de tu Madre to celebrate them. Klarna has been a longtime supporter of our team and our fans, supporting us in a special and authentic way over the years. This collection from Hija De Tu Madre is the perfect representation of our community - not to mention very stylish - and I can’t wait to see Angel City fans wearing it to the next game.”
