Playing in their second home game of the week, Angel City FC faced league leaders Kansas City Current and fell 3-1 at a sold-out BMO stadium crowd of 19,178.
An organized ACFC defense kept KC Current's attack at bay, controlling the tempo in the first half and opening the scoring on the 34' with yet another Thomspson- Emslie connection. A well-placed short pass from Thompson after Emslie's burst in the box allowed the Scottish international to score a nifty goal from a left footed strike on an acute angle. This Emslie's third goal in two games and her fourth in six games played overall.
But as disciplined as ACFC was in the first half, it was not enough to hold the fort against KC Current's offensive firepower. Three of Kansas City's attacking players lead the NWSL in goals scored through matchday 6.

Momentum shifted after KC Current's Vanessa Di Bernardo unleashed a screamer to equalize in the 54'. Angel City found themselves defending mostly on their own half entering the 60th minute mark as the Current completed more than 200 passes with multiple shots on target.

With the visiting team in control of ball possession, the end result was not decided until the final minutes of regulation. French supersub Claire Lavogez scored in the 90th minute from close range coming off a cross from Izzy Rodriguez. Then on injury time, the French international netted her second off an assist from forward Temwa Chawinga.
