Coming off a three-game winning streak, the Miami Heat arrived in Los Angeles full of confidence, shutting down the Clippers with strong defense and scoring an impressive 35 points in just the first quarter.
As wildfires devastated their city and the community looked to them for a morale boost, the LA Clippers regrouped and dug deep in the second half, defeating the Miami Heat 109-98.
Norman Powell led the team with 29 points, along with 6 rebounds, 5 three-pointers, and 3 steals, while James Harden made a substantial impact scoring 13 of his 26 points in the third quarter to ignite a Clippers run. Harden also made six three pointers and dished out 11 assists in the game.
Ivica Zubac delivered an outstanding performance with 21 points and a season-high 20 rebounds, for his his 25th double-double. This was his second career game achieving at least 20 points and 20 rebounds. “It’s hard to do, but that’s something that I set a goal of: ‘I want to get a 20-20,’” Zubac said. “I’m glad I was able to do it.”
Tyler Herro scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Miami, and Kel’el Ware contributed 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds coming off the bench. Bam Adebayo missed the game due to lower back pain from a fall in Portland on Saturday.
The Clippers played their first game in five days after their scheduled game on Saturday was postponed due to deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The victory places them in sixth place with a 21-17 record in the Western Conference standings. They will face the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, Jan 15 in LA.
